David Gooblar works to help faculty help students learn, through the promotion of evidence-based teaching practices. He believes that teaching is as challenging and intellectual a pursuit as any academic discipline, and is committed to both advancing the scholarship of teaching and learning and using that scholarship for the benefit of students here at Temple.

David has more than a decade of teaching experience in the fields of American literature and rhetoric, and has taught students at all levels. He earned his PhD, with a dissertation on the work of Philip Roth, from University College London, and he was most recently a faculty member at the University of Iowa. His writing on college pedagogy appears regularly in the Chronicle of Higher Education. His most recent book, The Missing Course: Everything They Never Taught You About College Teaching, was published by Harvard University Press in the fall of 2019.
