Can We Really Talk? Session 1: Teaching About Racism through the Lens of the Media

September 23, 2020 - 3:00pm to 4:30pm
Hosted online via Zoom

With rising social unrest and the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement, we all have a heightened awareness of the role that racism has had in the lives of many people . This session will explore how to acknowledge, teach and talk about racism with students (including our own understanding of this sensitive issue). Additionally, we will discuss how media influences the examples and perspectives students bring to class, and consider the challenges and benefits it presents when navigating topics such as this.

This workshop is co-sponsored by the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, Advocacy and Leadership (IDEAL).

Facilitator: David Brown, Diversity Advisor to the Office of the Dean and Assistant Professor of Instruction at Klein College

The CAT will send an access link to this webinar via email prior to the session.
