Provost's Teaching Academy

The Provost's Teaching Academy (PTA) is an intensive summer faculty development program where participants study topics such as human learning and adult development, integrated course design and assessment, and teaching methods that promote engagement and collaboration.

PTA members are a diverse, interdisciplinary group of faculty members and academic administrators who support excellent teaching at Temple in various ways. They serve as instructors and mentors for graduate students completing Temple's Teaching in Higher Education Certificate. Some PTA members apply their knowledge to leadership and mentoring roles within the university. PTA members also support the mission of the Center for the Advancement of Teaching, facilitating faculty development workshops, leading sessions at the Annual Faculty Conference on Teaching Excellence, and consulting with colleagues to enhance their pedagogy.

The first Academy took place in the summer of 2009. Read the featured story.

2017 Application Guidelines
The Center for the Advancement in Teaching invites full-time faculty members to apply for the 2017 Provost's Teaching Academy (PTA). Since 2009, the PTA has provided the opportunity for some of Temple's best and most committed educators and university leaders to have rich, cross-disciplinary conversations about the literature on how people learn and best teaching practices. With each new cohort of members, faculty with this increased teaching expertise impact the educational culture at Temple University. There are currently over 100 PTA faculty from across the university, representing a wide range of departments and academic units.

PTA faculty read literature on teaching and learning, participate in face-to-face as well as online discussions, and submit teaching materials as part of the program. PTA faculty members receive a $2,000 stipend* and course texts in recognition of their investment of time and energy.

The 2017 Provost's Teaching Academy will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am until 12 noon during the Summer 1 session from May 15th - June 26th.

2017 Application is now closed.

*Faculty on 12-month contracts (i.e. Medical School, Dental School, etc.) may not be eligible to receive these funds, but are still invited to participate. Please contact the CAT for more information.
